Most Stains Look Worse Than They Are

A fresh wine spill looks alarming. A pet accident that has been sitting for a week looks permanent. In our experience, most area rug stains that homeowners think are set for good can be significantly reduced or fully removed with the right treatment. The key variables are fiber type, dye stability, stain type, and how long it has been there. We assess all four before we treat anything. We will tell you honestly what we can do for your specific rug and stain before any work starts.

How Area Rug Stain Removal Works

  1. Assessment. We evaluate the stain type, fiber type, and dye stability before selecting a treatment. A wool rug with natural dyes needs a different approach than a synthetic polypropylene rug. We do not apply the same product to every rug.
  2. Pre-treat the stain. We apply the appropriate treatment to break down the stain compounds. The approach depends on whether the stain is protein-based, oil-based, or dye-based.
  3. Hot Carbonating Extraction. We clean the treated area with our low-moisture process. About 80% less water than steam cleaning means the rug is not soaked through during the process.
  4. Inspect and confirm. We review the result with you before we leave. If complete removal is not achievable for a particular stain, we will tell you what to expect before we start.

Area Rug Stain Removal Questions

Can you guarantee stain removal?

We cannot guarantee complete removal on every stain. Some stains, particularly older ones or those that have permanently altered the dye in the fiber, cannot be fully removed. We assess the stain during the inspection and tell you what to expect before any work begins. No surprises on the result.

Does it matter how old the stain is?

Yes. Fresh stains are almost always easier to treat than stains that have been set for days or weeks. If you have a spill right now, call immediately. The sooner we can get to it, the better the outcome.

Can you remove pet urine stains from an area rug?

Yes. Pet urine on area rugs is one of the most common calls we get. We treat both the stain and the odor. P.U.R.T. (Pet Urine Removal Treatment) breaks down uric acid at the source rather than masking the smell. See our pet urine odor removal page for more detail.

How long does the rug take to dry after stain treatment?

1 to 2 hours for most area rugs. We use about 80% less water than traditional steam cleaning, so dry time is short and the rug is back in service the same day.
