If you have a PCS date and a housing inspection on the calendar, the carpet is usually the thing standing between you and a clean handover. Here’s what actually matters, from a company that has cleaned a lot of Fort Leavenworth quarters on a deadline.
Book It for After You’re Empty
The single most common mistake is cleaning too early.
Carpet cleaned while furniture is still in the house gets cleaned around the furniture. Then the furniture leaves, and the inspector sees clean traffic lanes and untouched squares where the sofa and the bed were. That looks worse than not cleaning at all, because now there’s a visible contrast.
Clean after the truck is loaded and the rooms are empty. If your dates are tight, tell us when you’re loading and we’ll work backwards from that.
Dry Time Is the Real Constraint
On a PCS timeline you’re often cleaning the day before or the morning of the inspection. That’s fine, but only if the carpet is actually dry when the inspector walks in.
Damp carpet reads as a problem even when it’s clean. It can smell, and in a closed-up empty house on a summer day it holds that smell.
Our process uses about 80% less water than steam cleaning, so carpets dry in 1 to 2 hours rather than a full day. On a move-out schedule that’s the difference between a clean walkthrough and a rescheduled one.
The Sniff Test Is the Real Test
Inspectors look, but with an empty house they mostly smell. An empty room has no furniture, no soft goods and no air movement, so odor that was unnoticeable while you lived there becomes obvious the moment the rooms are bare.
This catches people out constantly. The house smelled fine on Tuesday with everything in it. On Thursday it’s empty and it smells like the dog.

What We Need to Know When You Call
- Your inspection date. This drives everything.
- When the house will be empty.
- Square footage or number of rooms.
- Whether there were pets, and roughly where any accidents happened.
- Any spots you already know about.

What Cleaning Will and Won’t Fix
Cleaning removes soil, most stains and traffic-lane wear. It does not repair burns, tears, or bleached spots where the color has been stripped out, and no cleaner can put color back that isn’t there.
