Why Persian and Oriental Rugs Need a Different Approach

Persian and Oriental rugs are not carpet. Natural dyes in hand-knotted wool or silk can bleed under excess water. Delicate fibers can shrink or mat when exposed to heat or aggressive agitation. Most carpet cleaning methods are built for synthetic wall-to-wall carpet, not for heirloom-quality rugs. Brooke’s Chem-Dry uses Hot Carbonating Extraction, a low-moisture process that uses about 80% less water than traditional steam cleaning. We assess fiber type, dye stability, and construction before we touch anything. That assessment determines the right approach for your specific rug.

How We Clean Persian and Oriental Rugs

  1. Free pre-inspection. We assess fiber type, dye stability, and construction before we start. Natural dyes, silk accents, and hand-knotted backing each affect how we approach the clean. You know exactly what to expect before we begin.
  2. Apply carbonated cleaning solution. Our carbonated solution lifts soil from the fibers without soaking the rug. The carbonation does the work, not water volume. About 80% less water than steam means no risk of dye bleeding or fiber damage from over-saturation.
  3. Hot Carbonating Extraction. We extract the solution and loosened soil from the rug fibers. The process is thorough without being aggressive. Delicate natural fibers stay stable.
  4. Post-clean review. We inspect the rug with you before we leave. Your rug dries in 1 to 2 hours and is ready to go back in place the same day.
