Grout is porous. That is the entire problem. Every mop bucket you have ever pushed across a kitchen floor left a little dirty water sitting in those lines, and it soaked in. The tile still wipes clean. The grout has been slowly getting darker for years, and no amount of scrubbing on a Saturday is going to reverse it.

1. Hot water extraction, at pressure. The dirt in a grout line is below the surface, so wiping the top does nothing. We flush it out under pressure rather than scrubbing at it.

2. The grout line gets its own attention. Cleaning the tile is the easy half. The line between the tiles is what actually changed color, and that is where the work is.

3. We seal it. A fresh grout sealant is what stops the next two years of mop water soaking straight back in. Skipping this step is why tile cleaning sometimes does not seem to last.
